Step-by-Step: Wiping an iPhone

1. Back up first. Go to Settings > [your name] > iCloud > iCloud Backup, and tap Back Up Now. Or connect to a computer and back up via Finder/iTunes.
2. Sign out of iCloud. Go to Settings > [your name] > Sign Out. This also turns off Find My iPhone, which is important — a phone still linked to Find My iPhone cannot be resold or fully activated by the next owner.
3. Remove your SIM card, and any eSIM profile if applicable.
4. Erase everything. Go to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Erase All Content and Settings. Confirm with your passcode or Apple ID password.
